On Nov 10, 2022, Zakat Academy (AZKA) has a discussion with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) to conduct the zakat research on title Kajian “Threshold” (Penanda Aras) Miskin Bandar Di Wilayah Perseketuan.

The USIM researcher has propose the proposal with 12 months duration to complete the research. The objectives of the research are:

This study involves four main objectives, namely:

• To identify the current threshold item (ie the benchmark or money threshold line) for the urban poor in WP based on the MAIWP kifayah.
• To analyze the urban poor threshold of WP based on the latest household spending patterns according to categories and priorities (daruriyyah, hajiyyah and tahsiniyyah).
• To propose the limit of the urban poor in WP based on current data and Maqasid Syariah.
• To develop zakat payment and distribution guidelines as the main reference in making policies for zakat payers, especially corporate companies in WP.

We hope that the outcome from the research will develop a model of new current threshold in WP.
